- Weigh 80g of ProSoy Pillar Wax, 8g of your chosen Fragrance Oil, and 4g of your chosen Mica Powder.
- Melt the wax using a wax melter or in a double boiler over medium to low heat, stirring gently until fully melted at approximately 75–80°C. Remove from heat once melted.
- Transfer the melted wax into a pouring jug. Add a few Violet Dye Chips and stir until fully dispersed.
- Allow your wax to cool to approximately 65°C. You will now add your fragrance oil and stir thoroughly for 1–2 minutes.
- Add the Mica Powder and stir thoroughly to ensure it is fully dispersed.
- When your wax has cooled to 55°C, slowly pour the wax mixture into your clamshell mould. Leave to set overnight at room temperature.
- Allow melts to cure for up to 2 weeks for optimal scent throw. Your shimmering mica wax melts are ready to enjoy.
Mica powders are stunning natural colourants often used in mineral makeup, but they have also become incredibly popular in wax melt making. Their fine, reflective particles create a pearlescent shimmer that elevates the appearance of your melts, making them perfect for gifts, seasonal launches, or premium collections.
Unlike standard dye chips, mica powder adds a soft shimmer to the melt pool when warmed. When used correctly, it creates a luxurious visual effect without compromising performance.
For best results, mica is typically used at around 5% of your wax weight to achieve a noticeable shimmer. It is important to fully disperse the mica to avoid clumping.
⚠️ Important: Mica powder is ideal for wax melts but is not recommended for container candles, as it may clog the wick and create a fire hazard.
Always check IFRA and legal limits for your chosen fragrance oil before making or selling.

1. Can I Use Mica Powder In Candles?
Mica is not recommended for container candles as it may clog the wick and create a fire hazard. It is best suited for wax melts.
2. How Much Mica Powder Should I Use?
Around 5% of wax weight is recommended for a visible shimmer.
3. Why Is My Mica Powder Clumping?
Mica powder must be stirred thoroughly into fully melted wax. You can also pre-mix mica with a small amount of melted wax to create a smooth slurry before adding.
4. Does Mica Powder Affect Scent Throw?
When used correctly, mica should not significantly affect scent throw in wax melts.
5. Why Do My Wax Melts Look Dull Once Set?
This is normal, the shimmer becomes more visible once the melt is heated and forms a liquid melt pool.
