A reed diffuser is a simple, flame-free way to fragrance your home. It consists of a decorative glass bottle filled with fragrance oil and reeds that absorb the liquid and slowly release scent into the air. Unlike candles, diffusers provide a consistent, long-lasting aroma without the need for heat or electricity.

Reed diffusers work through capillary action. The reeds soak up the reed diffuser base and draw it upwards, releasing the scent molecules gradually into the air. The number of reeds and the type of base oil used determine the intensity and longevity of the fragrance.

You’ll need:

• A diffuser base oil (such as Augeo Clean Multi, SFC Reed diffuser base, Natural reed diffuser base )
• A fragrance or essential oil of your choice
• Reeds (usually 3–10, depending on your vessel size)
• A diffuser bottle or jar with a narrow neck
• (Optional) Dye for colour or decorative elements

A common blend is 15–25% fragrance oil to 75–85% base, depending on how strong you want the scent to be and the performance of your fragrance.
For example:

• 100ml diffuser = 75ml base + 25ml fragrance (25%)

Always test small batches first, as different fragrances perform differently.

The lifespan of a reed diffuser depends on several factors — reed diffuser base, bottle size, temperature, airflow, and number of reeds. Typically:

• 100ml diffuser: lasts 8–12 weeks
• 200ml diffuser: lasts up to 5 months

Placing the diffuser in a warm, ventilated area helps scent circulation but avoid direct sunlight, which may cause faster evaporation.

Try the following:

• Add more reeds
• Flip reeds every few days
• Use a higher fragrance ratio (up to 25%)
• Place it in a warmer area (not directly next to heat)
• Choose high-quality base and fragrance oils

This is often called “nose blindness” – your brain gets used to the scent. You can:

• Take a short break from the scent
• Flip or replace reeds
• Move the diffuser to a new location

If the oil has evaporated, simply refill or top it up with a fresh mix.
