As the holiday season approaches, there’s no better way to bring the spirit of Christmas into your home than with festive wax melts. Christmas wax melts not only fill your space with seasonal aromas like cinnamon, pine, and peppermint, but they also add a decorative touch to your wax warmer. Creating your own Christmas wax melts is a fun and simple DIY project that allows you to customize the scents and designs to match your holiday décor. Plus, they make fantastic handmade gifts!
In this guide, we’ll show you how to make your own Christmas-themed wax melts, from selecting holiday fragrances to adding creative touches that evoke the festive spirit.
What you will need:
100g ProSoy Pillar Wax
10g Gingersnap & Eggnog Fragrance Oil
Step 1: Prepare the Wax
Begin by melting your wax . Add your wax to the top pot and melt them slowly over medium heat. If you’re using soy wax, melt it to around 75°C to 82°C Stir gently to ensure even melting.
Tip: If you’re using beeswax or paraffin, check the specific melting point, as these waxes have different temperature requirements.
Step 2: Add Christmas Scents
Once your wax is fully melted, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool slightly. At this point, it’s time to add your festive fragrance oils. Stir the fragrance oil into the wax gently to ensure it is evenly distributed.
Step 3: Add Color
To give your wax melts that festive look, add wax-safe dyes or mica powders. Holiday colors like red, green, white, gold, or silver work best for Christmas. Stir in a few drops of dye or a small amount of mica powder, adjusting the amount based on how vibrant you want the colors to be.
For a snowy effect, you can leave some of the wax melts uncolored or add a touch of white mica powder.
Step 4: Pour Into Molds
Carefully pour the scented and colored wax into your holiday-themed silicone molds. The wax should be at around 65°C to 71°C when pouring to avoid any imperfections or bubbles. You can fill the molds to the top, but be careful not to overfill them.
Step 5: Cool and Set
Let the wax cool completely, which can take 4-6 hours. The wax melts will harden as they cool and become easy to pop out of the molds once they’re fully set. You can speed up the cooling process by placing the molds in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes, but avoid putting them in the freezer, as this can cause cracking.
Step 6: Package and Enjoy!
Once your wax melts have fully cooled and set, gently pop them out of the molds. Store them in an airtight container or gift them in cute holiday packaging, such as festive tins or small gift bags. To use, simply place a wax melt in your wax warmer and enjoy the warm, festive scents as they fill your home.
Tips for Making the Perfect Wax Melts:
- Fragrance Strength: If you find the scent of your wax melts isn’t strong enough, experiment with adding a bit more fragrance oil (but be careful not to exceed 10% of the wax weight and check safety sheets and IFRA sheets before).
- Avoid Frosting: Soy wax can develop a frosted appearance after cooling. This is natural and won’t affect the performance, but you can minimize it by pouring the wax at a slightly lower temperature.
- Storing Wax Melts: Keep your wax melts in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help preserve both the scent and the color.
