For this customer story, we get to hear from Mercedes Hunt the owner of Bubble Wax Co LTD, her touching story is super inspiring!
3 years ago she fled domestic abuse with my two children and moved far away from home. She started university a month later and graduated in 2020! With the first lockdown coinciding with her graduation, her job prospects looked weak, on top of that she had no family or friends around to help with childcare so she felt like she had no hope of earning! Mercedes then had a eureka moment when she saw a wax melt shop on Instagram and thought she’d give it a go. The first supplier she found was Supplies for Candles so she decided to invest the last bit of savings she had into products for making wax melts to sell locally to earn some extra cash. It quickly turned into an obsession and she just loves every aspect of it and it’s saved Christmas for her children!
So what made Mercedes want to try her hand at candle and wax melt making? It was due to social media. She saw an online wax shop and it inspired her to look into starting her very own business! So how did she start her business? Mercedes took to social media to kick start her sales, she started with an Instagram page and it went from there! We wanted to know whether there was a story behind her name and logo, she told us that it was her seven year old daughter who came up with it, she named it bubble wax and it just stuck since then!
We also wanted to know how she chooses her candle and wax melt scents, Mercedes told us that she likes to ask my customers what kind of scents they like, often these are perfumes, fruits and cleaning products! Lastly, we asked if she had any advice for those hoping to build their own candle business? She told us; don’t be disheartened if it doesn’t take off super quickly, keep trying and you’ll get there!
